Access to clean water is all too scarce in rural areas of Kenya.

Access to clean water is all too scarce in rural areas of Kenya, where women and children spend precious hours collecting water from unsafe sources. WEFTA volunteers and their partners are cooperating to improve not only water, but sanitation and hygiene services as well (WASH) in several areas of the country.

WEFTA’s ongoing Circuit Rider program in Kenya helps identify the need for WASH repairs and renovations in healthcare facilities and schools, and work with project stakeholders on completing the necessary repairs and renovations. The Circuit Rider also trains HCF and school staff on key operation and maintenance tasks to keep the WASH assets functioning well. Past projects in several Kenyan counties were completed by our legacy organization, Waterlines, and have been in operation for many years.

Unsafe water and improperly managed sanitation contribute to the risk of disease and death. With new WASH installations and improvements to existing infrastructure, rural Kenyans will have a better chance to lead healthier lives, with more time to pursue education and profitable employment.
