In addition to serious ongoing social and economic problems, many of the poor of El Salvador are burdened with the public health consequences of unsafe drinking water and poorly managed wastewater. WEFTA is working with partners and community members in rural areas of the country to rectify these problems. Projects include installing drinking water and sanitation systems, protecting watersheds from contamination, and promoting hygiene education. By addressing these issues, including donating engineering and post-construction follow-up services, WEFTA aims to improve the quality of life for residents of rural El Salvador.
